Hot Dip Galvanized Pipe and Tube:
Hot dip galvanized products have been applied to many fields as the industry developed: hot galvanizing gives a long anticorrosion service life and adapts to a very wide range of environments, which is why it has always been a popular method for prevention of corrosion. The photo shows the product form we ship most for frames: bundles of square and rectangular hollow section tube, strapped and stacked, with the square profile doing the work in welded and bolted structures because it takes a bracket, a gutter or a bolt flat without a special fitting. Round pipe and square tube together make up the hot dip galvanized pipe and tube range.Where the Material Goes:
The same line serves towers, communication towers, railway and highway protection, lamp posts, marine structures, construction steel structure components, ancillary facilities of substations, light industry and more. In our own field the material is the skeleton of protected cropping: it carries commercial greenhouse frames, gutter runs and crop trellis, and it is the steel inside our tunnel and polytunnel houses. Fabricators buy it as cut lengths or as full bundles, depending on whether they weld trusses themselves or pass the tube straight through to a frame line.Corrosion Life in Service:
The figures below follow the corrosivity categories of ISO 9223 and BS EN ISO 14713-1, which classify a site by how fast zinc is consumed in that atmosphere. Coating life is read off that rate against the zinc thickness specified for the order, so the same tube gives different service figures in different places: around 13 years in heavy industrial air (C4), about 30 years in city conditions (C3), around 50 years on the coast (C5), and 50 years or more without repair in a clean suburban setting (C2). The practical way to hold the high end of that range is to specify the coating thickness or zinc mass per square metre in the order, because thickness, not the name of the process, decides which figure applies.Advantages:
1. Durable: a hot dip galvanized coating needs no site painting. In a clean suburban setting (ISO 9223 class C2) a standard coating goes 50 years or more without repair, and even in urban or coastal air (class C3 to C5) it still holds around 20 to 30 years before the first maintenance.2. Good reliability: the galvanized layer and the steel form a metallurgical bond, becoming part of the steel surface, so the durability of the coating is more reliable.
3. Strong coating toughness: the layer forms a special metallurgical structure that withstands mechanical damage in transport and use.
4. Comprehensive protection: every section of the plated part receives zinc, so cavities, sharp corners and hidden faces are fully protected.
5. Saves time and effort: galvanizing is faster than other coating methods and avoids site painting after installation.
6. Low initial cost: hot dip zinc generally costs less than other protective coatings, because blasting and painting are labor intensive while hot dipping is highly mechanized and tightly controlled in-plant.
7. Simple testing: the layer can be checked visually and with a simple non-destructive thickness test.
Ordering and Support:
We are a factory professional in hot dip galvanized metal for above 35 years, and every year we ship out a large quantity of HDG products. Tell us the section, the wall thickness, the length and the end treatment, and we will quote against your cutting list; the rest of the greenhouse equipment range can be consolidated with the steel in one shipment. We warmly welcome your inquiry: call +86 191 5068 3942 or send E-mail to sales@cngreenhouses.com, and see the about our factory page for company background.Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why order square tube rather than round pipe for a frame?
A: A flat face takes a bracket, a bolt or a gutter without a special fitting, and welded trusses are easier to jig. Round pipe is still used where the load path favours it or where fittings are already tooled.
Q: How long does the galvanized layer last?
A: It depends on the site and the coating thickness. Under ISO 9223 and BS EN ISO 14713-1, clean suburban air (class C2) gives 50 years or more without repair on a standard coating, while urban and coastal air (class C3 to C5) gives roughly 20 to 30 years to first maintenance. Thicker coatings extend that period in proportion, and the zinc layer can be measured on delivery.
Q: Can the coating be verified before shipment?
A: Yes. The layer is checked visually and with a simple non-destructive thickness test, and the test results can be supplied with the shipping documents.
Q: Which wall thicknesses and sections do you run?
A: Square and rectangular hollow sections plus round pipe, in the wall thickness and length your structure drawing calls for. Send the cutting list and we will quote against it.
Q: Is the tube suitable for welding on site?
A: Yes. The zinc layer bonds metallurgically with the steel and survives normal fabrication handling, which is one of the advantages of hot dipping over a site-applied coating.
Q: How is the bundle packed for export?
A: Strapped and stacked as shown in the photo, with the ends protected so the coating and any threading arrive undamaged; bundles can be cut to your lengths before loading.
