Cooling and Ventilation in a Flower House:


In a flower house the summer problem is heat. Once the air inside stops moving, the crop overheats, growth slows and the grade of the flowers drops. A cooling system paired with ventilation solves this: exhaust fans draw outside air through wet curtain pads, the air is cooled on the way through, and the warm air already inside leaves through the roof and side vents. With temperature, light, humidity and carbon dioxide concentration all under control, the crop stays uniform and reaches the market at a consistent grade, and production is no longer tied to the season. Our flower greenhouses are supplied complete with the frame, the covering and the installation accessories, and the greenhouse cooling and ventilation equipment can be specified together with the house. The structure itself is hot dip galvanized steel, rated for 15-20 years of service and backed by a 10-year structural warranty.
 

Which Flower Crops Need Cooling:


Greenhouse flowers are not hardy plants, so they will not overwinter in cold temperate regions and they need a covered house to grow on. How much cooling the house has to deliver depends on the temperature band the species belongs to:

◆ Cold room flowers are held at 2 to 5 ℃, for example bamboo palm and cycads, and need little active cooling because they are grown cool in the first place.

◆ Low greenhouse flowers are semi hardy and held at 5 to 8 ℃, for example Primula.

◆ Temperature greenhouse flowers come mostly from subtropical areas and are held at 8 to 15 ℃, for example Calceolaria and fuchsias. In a hot climate these are the houses that need summer cooling most.

◆ High temperature greenhouse flowers come from the tropics and are held at 15 to 25 ℃, for example Codiaeum. For this band a wet curtain cooling system and good roof ventilation are the difference between a crop that holds its quality and one that stalls in the heat.
 

Multi-Span Siting and Orientation:


For a multi-span flower house, choose land with a low water table, a good supply of clean water, easy drainage and irrigation, and loose fertile soil that carries no pollution. Run the house north to south and put the air vents on the east and west sides. The advantage of this is:

(1). The humidity inside the house stays easier to control;

(2). Rows shade each other less, so light is distributed evenly over the beds;

(3). In winter you can ventilate and cool the house without letting a large volume of cold north wind in.
